About Prison Watch

Prison Watch is an independent organisation based in the Netherlands. It advises and carries out research on prison regimes, prison conditions and treatment of prisoners around the world. Its clients are national and international (non) governmental organisations. Prison Watch expertise is on foreign prisoners, juveniles, independent monitoring bodies  and impact of the European Prison Rules. Training and advice on these issues can be provided. Prisons and prisoners tend to remain hidden from the public view. This website is created to make information more widely available. It guides you to international and regional prison rules, prison statistics, national prison services and organisations which are active on various prison issues.
